Okay, don’t laugh. It’s a job and it can be a darn good paying one if you have a good route. Being a newspaper delivery boy isn’t what it used to be many years ago. Today, newspapers are much more efficiently run and the delivery services themselves have been upgraded drastically. Today’s paper boy doesn’t work anywhere near as hard as the paper boy of the 1970s. So if you’re thinking this is something that you don’t want to do, you might think differently after reading this review of exactly what a paperboy does and gets paid.

Paper boys of the 21st century have it made. Of course this isn’t a job that a 10 year old is going to be able to do anymore, at least not if he wants to make the big bucks. Today’s paper routes are much larger than they were years ago. So in order to work today’s routes you’re going to need a car, preferably one with a lot of trunk space. An SUV, van or truck may even help. Years ago, a route was maybe 100 papers. Today, a route can be up to 1000 papers if you get a really good route.

The first thing you need to do is contact the local newspaper in your area and tell them you want to route. They’ll ask you where you live and try to assign you one that is close by. They will ask you if you have a vehicle. When you get hired, they will give you a destination to go to in order to pick up your papers. Yes, you do have to pick them up yourself. They don’t deliver them to your door. On normal days there won’t be anything more to do than to pick up the papers and throw them in your car. But on Sundays things are a little different. The Sunday paper comes in sections and before you can deliver each paper you have to put the sections together. This can be very time consuming, so on Sunday you better be prepared to get up a little earlier and work a little longer. But it’s worth it because the Sunday papers are very expensive today and the commissions you get on them are very nice.

After the papers are put together you will have a route sheet to look at. This will have the addresses of every subscriber. You better either know the area well or have a map with you or you’re going to get very lost and your job is going to take you all day to complete. This is not good when you have people who are expecting their paper by 7 AM.

After you have delivered all your papers, you return home and report in to the main office that the route for that day has been completed. They’ll ask you the time of completion and how long it took you. If they see you’re taking longer than expected you may not keep your job long as this will lead to unhappy customers.

Years ago, when papers were 10 cents, you got paid 2 cents on every paper, or 20 percent. Today, the percentages are closer to 30 percent and with papers going for 50 cents a pop during the week and $1.00 on Sunday, you can make a nice part time income for an hour of work a day.

Being a paper boy isn’t what it used to be.

We’ve all heard the jokes about car salesmen, especially used car salesmen. We have a picture in our minds of these shady characters we wouldn’t trust with our pencils let alone with selling us an automobile. The truth is, car salesmen have a tough job. Think you want to sell cars for a living? You might want to read what follows first.

In spite of what most people think, selling cars is not as simple as just showing somebody an automobile and getting them to sign on the bottom line. The car selling process for a salesman is actually quite involved with many steps along the way.

For starters, most of the large car dealers have a sales force. This sales force is broken up into teams and shifts. Because most dealerships are open late, one shift takes the morning and afternoon while another shift takes the afternoon and evening. A dealership may have as many as 25 salesmen working for them, not counting finance people.

When a customer comes in, the salesmen take turns approaching them for help. This way each salesman has the chance to close a sale. If it’s slow, this puts everyone on equal footing. If it’s busy, then the salesman who closes his sales the fastest will make out the best. This is because if he is done and everyone else is with a customer, then he gets the next customer that comes in regardless of who’s “turn” it is. Customers are never supposed to wait more than 30 seconds to be waited on.

The first thing the salesman does is ask the customer what they’re looking for. After getting this info, he’ll show the customer several models in the price range or class that he wants. This is probably the lengthiest part of the process as the customer may have a number of questions and even ask for a demo drive. If a demo drive is asked for the salesman has to check in with the manager to get the keys. This is to make sure that a salesman doesn’t just hop into a car and drive off with it.

If after the demo ride and all the questions are answered the customer decides he wants to get the car, the salesman’s job isn’t done. Not by a long shot. The next thing he has to do is bring the customer to the finance office to work out the financing of the vehicle. While this is going on the salesman has to go to the prep department with the car. Here he tells the prep guys what needs to be done to the car, such as if any extra equipment needs to be added. It’s the salesperson who coordinates this whole process, making sure that the prep department gets the car ready for delivery and also making sure that the finance office takes care of financing.

After the car is prepped and the finance papers are all filled out, the salesman then gets the car from the prep department and drives it to the pickup area. After the customer is all done with the paperwork, the salesman escorts the customer out to the new car, hands him the keys and gives him his business card. He tells the customer to call if he has any questions.

The salesman then has to go back inside and fill out a report on the sale and submit it to his manager.

Yes, selling a car is not just selling a car.

Finding a job is a difficult and effortful process. If this is the first time you are looking for a job, you may be very nervous and worried about whether you will find one or not. The following steps will help you gain more chances of getting your desired job.

Know what you want. This may sound simple but it is an essential factor making your success. You should ask yourself questions to find out which job suits you the best. Don’t make your choice too general. Make it specific and detailed. You have to focus on a certain work, a defined position. Nothing is worse than a vague idea. This will be more important later when you write the motivation letter or when you are interviewed. The employers are usually much more interested in applicants who are determined and have a clear idea about their strong and weak points, about what they exactly want and how they will do it.

Search for information. The information you have to search is everything about the companies you like, about the current status of your desired job or about any possible alternatives. You have to gather much information before making a decision. In addition, if you want to get a job, you have to master all public information about the company you apply to. The website of that company will help you a lot. If you know anyone working in that company, go and ask him for more information. Maybe he will help you with a lot of useful news and info. Having much information in hand doesn’t only help you make a better choice but also helps you a great deal later, when you are interviewed. Employers may ask you some questions about their company and you will score more points if you have good knowledge about the history, development and current status of the company.

Take care of your application. Your application packet is your application form, a letter of motivation, your CV and a letter of recommendation if possible. Choose the CV type which suits you the best. If you have worked for another company before, you shouldn’t describe much about what you did, but tell about your achievements and your good results. However, if you haven’t got much working experience, you should write more about your skills and certifications as well as your extra activities and how eager and diligent you are in any activity. Be confident. You should show the employer that you believe that you are the right person for the position. Your motivation letter has to show that. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can you gain the employer’s belief? However, self-confidence doesn’t mean arrogance. Be careful with your writing and don’t make people feel that you are boasting about yourself.

Never give up. There are many difficulties and obstacles in finding a job nowadays. People searching for jobs always outnumber jobs available. Nothing is easy, especially if it’s your first time. There is rarely anyone that can get his wished job right from the first time of application. Always keep trying and never be disheartened, your desired job will be there for you.

If there is one thing that this world will never stop needing, it’s people who work to find other people jobs, or employment agents. This can be a very challenging and rewarding job. If you have the right personality and can get the most out of both ends of the equation involved, you can make a nice living as an employment agent. What you’re about to read is a brief description of what’s involved.

Obviously, as an employment agent, your job is to find other people jobs. But the obvious doesn’t always really tell the whole story of what’s involved with a job. Being an employment agent is no exception. The best way to explain the challenges of an employment agent is to give you fictional example of the process.

A guy comes into your office and says he’s looking for a job. The first thing you do is have him fill out a very long questionnaire. This will give you a good idea of the person’s background and what they’re looking for. The agent will take some time to look over the application and then call them into the office to talk.

The conversation that follows is more to get a sense of the applicant’s personality than his skills. Those things are all on paper. The agent wants to get a feel for the person’s confidence level with his skills. A big part of getting an applicant a job is knowing the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses. You need to be able to play up the strengths and downplay the weaknesses when presenting the applicant to a perspective employer.

It is during this interview that the agent will ask the applicant what he’s looking for specifically and then what he would settle for as far as position and money. Ideally you want to be able to get him what he wants but in a competitive market this isn’t always possible. It is the agent’s responsibility to explain to the applicant that he can’t be too choosy, especially if he has been out of work for a while.

After the interview is over, the agent then gets on the phone with as many companies as he can that are on file with the agency where the job description at least closely matches what the applicant is looking for. In these phone calls it is the agent’s responsibility to “sell” the applicant to the company. This is not easy to do, especially when you’re representing somebody who has limited skills. This is where you have to be a real sales person.

If the agent manages to find a company willing to meet with the applicant for a job interview, the next step is for the agent to call the applicant back in and prepare him for the interview. This is where the agent instructs about dress, what to say, what not to say, how to behave, etc. The agent must leave nothing to chance. He’ll then give the applicant directions for the interview as well as what time to be there.

Hopefully, when the process is over, the applicant will get the job offer and accept it and the agent will receive his commission. Yes, most agents work on a commission basis. You can make a lot of money doing this. You can also starve to death if you’re not good at your job.

Being an employment agent requires incredible social skills and patience and it’s not for everybody. But if you think you have what it takes and like the excitement of having to sell another human being to a big corporation, this may be just the job for you.

In the world of tech jobs, there is probably no job with more stress than that of being a support tech. If you’re thinking of getting into this field there are a number of things you need to be made aware of if you’re going to have any chance of surviving this very grueling and demanding job.

For starters, what exactly is a support tech? A support tech is somebody who provides support to customers who are having some kind of problem with the companies software or service. Most support techs, like the ones you’ll find at Microsoft and AOL, are technical. In other words, they’re usually supporting some kind of software that the company sells to the customer or provides to the user who uses their service. In either case, when there is a problem, it is the support tech’s responsibility to solve that problem.

In most companies, there are levels to the support structure. A level one support tech is the one who can handle most of the simple everyday questions like “how do I.”. . to which they will give simple answers like “to perform this function do.”. . so that the customer can complete the task that they are trying to do. A level one support tech may also be able to handle some very simple technical problems where the software itself isn’t working properly, such as like when a modem isn’t responding.

A level two support tech has to be a little bit more knowledgeable about the system itself. They handle the more difficult questions that arise, usually when the customer is having a problem with a complex series of operations. They also handle the more serious technical glitches that occur within the software itself.

A level three support tech is the last line of defense. This is the person in the company who knows everything about the software and can solve just about any problem unless the software itself is not functioning correctly and the only fix is a reinstall of the software itself.

Requirements for this kind of job are many. For starters, you better have a good phone voice. You’re going to be constantly talking to customers all day long unless you’re working at a tech center where you’re doing live online help and simply typing text messages back. But most tech jobs do require many hours on the phone.

A support tech position obviously requires that the person has a working knowledge of the software or service itself. They also better have some very good general technical skills and be able to think on their feet. Because of the nature of the job one call may have nothing to do with the call before it and they have to be able to completely put out of their mind what happened prior, unless they learned something from the call that will help them in the future.

A support tech’s job is not an easy one. In most cases they are dealing with unhappy customers because something is not working right. Therefore they have to learn patience and understanding. If a support tech has all the qualities mentioned here, they have a very good chance of being successful at their job.

Two nurse leaders offer their top tips

1. Set up routine processes and algorithms so nurses can more easily make decisions about treating immediate patient needs.

The most effective nurses are the best-supported nurses. Providing proper training and developing routine processes and algorithms empower nurses to make decisions about treatment when appropriate. Opportunities for quick physician consultation also provides nurses with the support they need.

At Mount Carmel Health System, nurses interact with physicians five days a week in daily rounds. There are weekly interdisciplinary team meetings that further strengthen this interdisciplinary collaboration. At the meetings, the team discusses cases in more detail, shares information, solves problems and learns from each member. A palliative care physician is on-call 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

At Massey Cancer Center, there are 18 evidence-based algorithms in place which are reviewed every year and approved by the attending physicians for palliative care patients on our unit. Trained nurses on the unit can use the algorithms to promptly treat dsypnea, anxiety or pain, for example, which makes them better able to respond quickly to patient and family needs. Patients get immediate treatment and positive outcomes without needing to wait for the doctor. The nursing staff knows they are giving the right treatment in a timely fashion.

2. Create a culture of flexibility and responsiveness to patient needs.

Even with good processes and procedures in place, there may be uncertainty and gray areas. For instance, understanding a patient’s goals of care can be time consuming and complex. However, these conversations are critical to providing appropriate care. By focusing on and setting a patient’s goals of care, it’s much easier to know how to proceed. If you’re wondering whether to draw a lab on a patient or provide antibiotics to an elderly person with aspiration pneumonia, there is no right or wrong textbook answer. The answers should be determined by whether these actions meet the goals of care.

Guidelines in a unit or on a service are necessary, but they should not be viewed as hard and fast rules. Here are two cases from Massey Cancer Center to illustrate the point:

If you’re thinking about getting a job as a QA Manager, there are certain things you should be aware of as far as what the job will most likely require and what qualifications you will need to have in order to get such a job. A QA Manager’s position can be very rewarding. It can also be very stressful.

QA stands for quality assurance. This means that whatever product your company sells, you’re responsible for making sure that the quality of the product itself is as high as possible and that there are no serious problems with the product.

The importance of this job can’t be shown any better than in the software industry. While the QA department is in no way responsible for actually creating the software that the company sells, they are responsible for testing the software. In doing so they have to test not only every single function of the software but every single combination of functions. For example, the copy and paste function of text editor may work fine in an isolated test. But it is quite possible that a bug can be discovered in the software if just prior to doing a copy and paste, the file save option is executed. Don’t laugh. Stranger things have happened.

The QA manager usually doesn’t have much to do with the hands on testing of the software itself. The manager will probably have a team of QA testers. It is the manager’s responsibility to assign each tester and certain module of the software to test and to instruct them to document each test and the result of each test so that they can be reviewed and sent to the programmers if any changes need to be made.

It is also the responsibility of the QA manager, once all the fixes to the software have been done and the final tests are completed, to make sure that all documentation for the software is written up. The QA manager may do this alone or assign different parts of the documentation to be handled by different members of the QA staff.

In order to perform the duties of a QA manager, the person has to have excellent analytical skills. They must be able to walk through a process, step by step and not leave anything out, much like how a programmer goes about doing his programming. A QA manager must also have very good communication skills. They must be able to communicate the needs of the program changes to the programmers and also be able to effectively communicate what needs to be tested to the rest of the staff. They also need to be able to write very well, especially for the purpose of completing the documentation needed for the software itself.

Every QA manager position is going to be different as each company is going to have a different product. But the general overall concept is going to be the same regardless of what you’re working on. A QA manager’s position can be very rewarding in pay and in sense of accomplishment. It can also be a very long day more often than not.

The final decision on what path to take is in your hands since the opportunities in any of these fields are unlimited. If you prefer making newspaper or magazine layouts then you may choose to concentrate on print materials.
